Doctoral Candidates from the HumanIC project successfully attended and presented at the European Researchers’ Night events held in various locations across the continent on September 26, 2025.

Our doctoral candidates, Dorsa Rabizadeh, Vasco Vasconcelos, Kunal Bairwa, and Rahmat Rizal, along with Professor Anna Bogdan and Marcin Michalski attended European Researchers’ Night at the Gdańsk Medical University, Poland. They primary focus was on the critical role of hospital operating room ventilation because it is key to ensuring patient safety, maximizing medical staff comfort, and driving sustainability in healthcare facilities.

Tani Angiero, along with Dr. A. Ianiro and Dr. S. Discetti, had an insightful night at the European Researchers’ Night at the UC3M Science Park in Madrid, Spain. She presented the advanced optical technique, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), to deliver an eye-opening, real-time demonstration. This technology let her team reveal exactly how air moves inside an operating room using our scaled model facility.

Denise D’Elia, had a fantastic evening at the European Researchers’ Night at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain. Sher aised gave the presenation about the microorganisms, particularly fungi, that surround us and the impact they have on human health. Using demonstrations, she showed the audience how an air sample is collected and analyzed, explaining the critical importance of environmental monitoring in various contexts, especially within protected areas of hospitals.

Jixuan Bao  attended and presented at the European Researchers’ Night on  ForskarFredag in Sweden. Jixuan focused on air distribution in double-bed patient rooms. Through rigorous experiments, her research investigated how factors like airflow rate, heat gains, room layout, and exhaust placement impacted the spread of airborne contaminants. Based on these findings, Jixuan proposed local air distribution strategies designed to offer better protection for patients, staff, and visitors. The goal was clear: to leverage optimized airflow to help create safer and healthier hospital

Fang Hou, successfully participated online in the European Researchers’ Night, known as ForskarFredag in Sweden.Fang hosted a session titled: “The Invisible World We Breathe: Engineering Healthy Air (A Detective Journey Through Home, School & Hospital).”Fang guided participants through an agenda that started with Case Files: Indoor air quality related problems and covered essential background knowledge. Throughout the presentation, Fang emphasized being aware of the possible problems underlying daily life and specific critical scenarios.

Hassan Kotb attended the European Researchers’ Night at the University of Coimbra in Portugal. He delivered a specialized scientific talk titled: “The Role of Frequent Operating Room Door Openings in Increasing BCPs and Practical Solutions to Reduce Them.” His presentation focused on the direct relationship between frequent door movements in Operating Rooms and the increase of Airborne Contaminants. Crucially, he highlighted practical interventions and solutions derived from the HumanIC research to minimize this contamination risk, thereby contributing to safer surgical environments.

Muhammad Tayyab Waheed attended in the European Researchers’ Night at the University of Coimbra in Portugal.Tayyab’s presentation covered several important agenda points, including a comprehensive Introduction to the HumanIC project, a discussion of its Key Performance Indicators, and the impact of the overall project. A highlight of his session was a poster presentation showcasing “An interactive simulation tool for Indoor Air Quality.” He also used a simulation video recording to explain how this tool functions.
